Creator Codes Don't Just Drive More Revenue. They Drive Better Revenue.

What 635,635 unique paying players and $61.3M in creator code GMV tells us about using creator codes

by Yonatan Matz Posted on 09 September 2026

Every year, studio costs for UA through paid ads, influencer marketing, and other channels increases. Cost per install climbs. Attribution gets harder. And somewhere in the stack, a legacy platform was taking 30% of every player’s transaction.

Creator codes are usually framed as a discount mechanism. A way to give players a cut on purchases, reward influencer relationships, and build community loyalty. That framing completely misses the real value even if it’s not factually wrong.

Across 635,635 unique paying players and $61.3M in creator code GMV, one pattern comes up consistently: players who transact using a creator code spend more than players who don't. Not slightly more. Significantly more.

The transaction value gap is larger than expected

Tebex data covers desktop and mobile purchasing behavior across more than 1.5 million creator-backed transactions. The average transaction value (ATV) gap between creator code users and standard buyers is material:

  • Desktop: $30.45 without a code, $39.81 with one. A 31% lift.
  • Mobile: $27.14 without a code, $52.42 with one. A 93% lift.

The mobile figure gets attention. A player arriving on a mobile webstore via a creator code spends, on average, nearly twice as much as the standard mobile buyer.

That is not a discount story. That is a buyer-quality story.

Why creator code users spend more

A few factors combine here. Creator codes tend to attract players who are already bought in. They follow a creator, they trust the recommendation, and they arrive at the store with intent. They are not browsing; they are purchasing. That intent translates directly into basket size.

There is also a community signal embedded in the code. Because using a creator's code is in small part, an act of support, players that come through a code tend to purchase more deliberately and more generously than the casual browser.

The result is a customer that costs less to acquire (no paid UA) and spends more at the point of transaction.

The webstore question

Here is where the story connects to margin. Creator code transactions often happen in the direct-to-consumer webstore, not through in-app checkout.

Meaning that directing traffic generated through creator codes avoids the legacy platform marketplace 30% fee.

For example, when a player buys through a package on a Tebex-powered store, only the Tebex fees are applied, meaning the store keeps more more of their GMV and also educates the player about their D2C channel.

So the creator code transaction is doing two things simultaneously: it produces a higher ATV than the standard buyer, and it routes that purchase through a channel that preserves more of the revenue. The combination is meaningful for studios modelling unit economics at the transaction level.

What this means at the portfolio level

Creator code GMV reached $61.3M between 2024 and 2026 across the Tebex platform. In 2026 alone, creator codes account for 9.4% of platform GMV, up from the two-year average of 8.6%. The segment is growing.

Studios with an active creator code program are not just generating incremental revenue. They are generating incremental revenue with better per-transaction economics, through a channel they control, with data they own.

The case for managing creator programs as a multi-layer economy

Most studios that run creator programs think about them as a marketing cost or a community tool. The data suggests they are something else: a structured acquisition channel with measurable per-player economics, with transaction values that outperform standard buyers.

Across the full dataset, four in five creator code buyers had never made a purchase on the platform before they used the code.

That is an acquisition channel, not a discount mechanism. And it is one where the customer arrives with high intent, ready to spend.
